Abstract
The presence of organic impurities, particularly at saturation level, in the Bayer liquor is known to create several detrimental effects in the alumina production technology. The recent organic carbon measurements made in our laboratory by gas chromotography on various bauxites and plant liquors have shown the present status of organic constituents in our alumina plants. In this paper the influence of these organic impurities on the liquor productivity and alumina precipitation are discussed. The methods and the special chemical additives employed for improving the productivity and the organic impurity control in the precipitation are also presented.
