Abstract

Effect of water on the polarisation behaviour of some aluminium alloys (1060, 1100 and 3003) in methylamine has been carried out using potentiostatic method. S-shaped anodic curves have been obtained for all studied alloys in 0.5% and 0.1% methylamine except for 1060 alloy in 0.5% methylamine. In the presence of water, a shift in the anodic polarisation curves towards low region of current density has been observed. Cathodic polarisation curves reveal the fact that alloys are cathodically more polarised in 0.5% and 0.1% methylamine than in the other composition of methylamine.
