Abstract
A systematic study on the development of high (70-90%) alumina refractory cement at National Metallurgical Laboratory has been made. Mixing and grinding of the cement raw mix has been in wet condition. This results in the increase of pH of the system. DDTA run of the raw mixes gives extra endothermic peak beyond calcite. Higher the alumina content higher is the peak temperature for the endotherm appearing beyond that for alumina cement formation. High strength high alumina cement is successfully developed by solid state sintering at 1500°C-1650°C.
