Abstract

A photon or an auger-electron is emitted when an electron from an outer level fills the vacancy depending upon the relaxation time for photon emission. The emitted energies of the auger-electrons are the characteristic of the excited atom. It has been tried to put forth, briefly, the scope of the most important surface spectroscopic technique in dealing with the various problems of metallurgical interest.
