Abstract

The solid solubility limits of the electrolytic silver-copper alloys deposited at constant cathode potential over a range of 0.92-94.93 percent copper were studied by the X-ray powder diffraction technique. The existence of the metastable alloy phases at ordinary temperatures and their subsequent transformation on annealing as observed by the authors have been explained on the basis of the postulations advanced earlier by Banerjee in the case of brass. The role of various factors on the deposition of these alloys has also been discussed. (Mr. P.L. Ahuja, Senior Research Fellow and Dr. T. Banerjee, Deputy Director, National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur)
