Abstract

The authors have reviewed the production of high carbon ferro-chrome and given the classification of different grades of ferro-chrome according to chromium, carbon and silicon contents. The theoretical principles involved in the production have been discussed and the effect of basicity of the slag, type of chrome ore and reductant used, on the resultant product has been described. The type of smelting equipment used and the precautions to be taken to achieve smooth operation have been discussed. The paper also highlights some of the new processes and techniques used in experimental trials. (Mr. T.L. Srikrishna, formerly Pool Officer and Mr. P.P.
