Abstract

Work on hot-dip aluminising of steel wire on pilot plant scale at the National Metallurgical Laboratory has shown that aluminised wire can serve as a good substitute for galvanised wire for hardware applications, telegraph and telephone wires and ACSR core wires. Data on coating weights, salt spray corrosion resistance, soundness tests, electrical resistance, mechanical properties, joint design and soldering as well as the cost estimate of processing and capital expenditure for an aluminising plant have dealt with in the paper.
