Abstract

A considerable amount of caustic soda is marketed in India in the anhydrous form by fusing 50% caustic soda solution in cast iron pots at about 500°C. Frequent failure of the pots is encountered in the industry. The causes of failures were investigated by studying the nature of attack and the corrosion rate in fused caustic soda, with and without additions of sodium nitrate and sulphur. (Messrs S.
