Abstract

The efficiency and economy of power generating plants depend largely on the minimisation of breakdown in various units. A serious case of damage of induced draft fan at the Bokaro Thermal Power Station was investigated. The paper describes various tests carried out to determine the causes of damage. The investigation indicated that localised erosive action of fly ash played an important part in causing the damage. Suitable preventive measures on the basis of the investigation were suggested.
