Abstract

The vanadium bearing titaniferrous ores of Bihar and Orissa contain 0.8-1.8% vanadium with 10-20% titanium dioxide. The paper records the results of studies carried out for the recovery and precipitation by the adjustment of pH. The factors studied for roasting include the effect of (a) particle size (b) temperature (c) different sodium salts and (d) kinetics of roasting. The roasted product is ground and leached with hot water and vanadium pentoxide precipitated by adjusting the pH to 1.5 to 2. The effect of the recovery of vanadium pentoxide has been recorded. An overall recovery of 60% has been obtained. (Mr. Mrinal Roy, Senior Scientific Assistant; Mr. P.P. Bhatnagar, Assistant Director, National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur)
