Abstract

Carbon steel components are generally used for transportation of petrochemicals, oilfield products having sulphur compounds, brine solution containing hydrogen sulphide and are thus susceptible to corrosion. There is an increasing demand of substitution by aluminium and its alloys. This paper deals with study on comparative corrosion behaviour of two API grade carbon steels .l11dtwo aluminium alloys in Na2S, Na2SO, solutions. H2Ssaturated distilled water. NACE solution (as per NACE Standard TM-02-84) and industrial atmosphere. Corrosion rate was determined. Loss in tensile strength measured. Aluminium alloys exhibit superior corrosion resistance in comparison to carbon steels studied under identical conditions of exposure.
