Abstract

This paper deals with the selection of paints as well as the determination of volatile organic component (VOC) suitable for the formulations of the paints. Two primers were formulated based on epoxy resin consisting of polyamide hardner for anti corrosion treatment of mild steel. The finishcoat consisting of amine-adduct hardner as well as titaniumdioxide. Two primers and one top coat making four systems were selected for these studies. It has been observed experimentally that the primer PI consisting of polyamide cured epoxy based ZnCrO, plus amine-adduct cured epoxy based TiO2 finishcoat F2 showed excellent result in the electrochemical studies in terms of corrosion resistance in aggressive media. It was found to be the most cost effective among all the high solid coating (HSC) systems and can be used for industrial application.
