Abstract

A new effect, called giant magneto-impendence (GMI), was recently found in soft magnetic amorphous and nanocrystalline materials. This effect includes a sensitive change in an ac voltage in these materials with the application of a small de magnetic field. and thus an ac analog of gaint magneto resistance and known as giant magneto impedance. GMI properties have been investigated in four different compositions of amorphous and nanocrystalline wire and ribbon shaped materials. About 100% change in impedance per Oe of magnetic field was observed in nearly zero magnetostrictive amorphous wire. This large change in impedance value due to application of magnetic field makes these materials as prospective candidates for sensor application.
