Abstract
The first observation of insufficient protection by polymer coatings against corrosion is usually blister growth. Therefore, much effort has been given to understand the causes of this coating defect. Two primers and three types of alkyd paints were applied on mild steel to observe and analyse the failure of coating. The blister growth was studied in different salt environment by considering the coating as a semi-double cantilever beam with the help of a functional relationship between the blister growth rate, applied bending moment. Young's modulus and disbondment stress, etc.
