Abstract
Aluminium-silicon alloys are well known for their interesting properties such as light weight, good castability and above all, excellent wear resistance [1-4]. Accordingly, they are widely used for a variety of tribological applications [5-7]. Their abrasive wear resistance has also been observed to be of great interest [8] since, in the mentioned variety of tribological applications, abrasion is also experienced in addition to adhesive wear.
