Abstract

Excellent achievements of Co-base alloys have occupied an important position in surgical implant alloys and surgical instrumentation. Studies on this alloys have aimed to improve mechanical properties in these alloys in response to inter-capability of mutual strengths between alloys and bones. Those have been Young's modulus, density, wear, fatigue, corrosion resistance, surface property development and effects of alloy addition. Modifications of heat treatments, solidification conditions, surface implantation and precipitation have changed properties for more life and suitability for application. Implant material as a load-bearing component has attracted global interest on in-growth of muscle to the porous surface, formation of corrosion product and wear effect losses.
