Abstract

Mild Steel is well known for its various applications in different fields. Mill scale on mild steel sheet components are usually removed by chemical cleaning, pickling etc. In the present study, mild steel sheet (Table-1) (25mm x 25mm x 3mm) and 2M H2SO4 solution has been selected as chemical cleaning solution of 1M to 2M H2SO4 is normally used in industries. Weight loss and Potentiodynamic polarization method have been carried out. Organic additives containing S and N like thiourea and quinoline as well as some of their derivatives were used for inhibiting/minimizing the dissolution rate of mild steel at various temperatures. Concentrations of the additives were varied. It was observed that 200 ppm of respective additives show superior inhibition/minimization of corrosion and low rate of dissolution at all the temperatures used in the experimentations.
