Perspectives in rare earth magnets

Abstract

The discovery of the high energy product Rare Earth-Cobalt magnets in the early seventies followed by. the still higher energy product Nd-Fe-B magnets in 1983, has opened up new frontiers for research and development. Considerable efforts have been made to understand the structure, phase relationships, magnetic property-microstructure relations in the Rare Earth Transition Metal alloys and to develop magnets with improved properties. Even on the processing front, several new methods have been designed.
