Abstract
The sand sample designated GSI-12 was received from Geological Survey of India, Eastern Region, West Bengal Circle. The sample is reported to have been collected from a fairly big deposit at Parbatipur (latitude 23° 37, 35’’Iongitude 86°47’50’’) near Panchot Hill, District Burdwan, West Bengal. The limited quality of sand sample received permitted, only preliminary investigations to be carried out at NML Foundry Station, Industrial Estate, Howrah. This was done with a view to get some idea of its suitability for foundry moulding purposes. The sand sample was yellowish brown in colour in as ‘received’ condition.
