The corrosion of iron in acidic methanol chloride solution has been studied. An increase in the chloride ion concentration at a constant pH increases the dissolution rate of iron. The reaction order with respect to Cl- is 0.3; chloride ions participate directly in the ionization of iron. A reaction mechanism with the involvement of non-aqueous solvent molecules as an intermediate has been proposed and the kinetic equation corresponding to it has been derived using Temkin adsorption isotherm which is in satisfactory agreement with the experimental data.
