Abstract
Three samples a silica sand, a moulding sand and a bonding clay, were received from M/S Britania Engineering Company Ltd., Titaghur (W. Bengal) with a view to determine their chemical and mineralogical constituents, grain size, shape and distribution and also their refractoriness. The samples weighed about one pound each. Silica sand was in the disintegrated form, but the moulding sand and the bonding clay contained lumps, which were crushed manually. The clay sample after crushing was sieved through a 200 mesh sieve (U. S. Standard) and the portion passing through that sieve was taken for subsequent testing.
