Abstract
In recent years there has been an increasing interest in improving the mechanical properties of commercially available austenitic steels, so that these highly corro-sion resistant material cans be utilized in structural applications and automotive safety components. Nitrogen alloying and cold rolling are typically utilized to incr-ease the strength. However In conventional austenitic stainless steels, there is a low limit for nitrogen solubility, and cold working reduces ductility and forma-bility properties. In this context, a novel technique,
the reversion annealing of heavily cold deformed metas-table austenitic Cr-Ni steels, has been employed. In this technique, upon annealing the strain induced martensite transforms to austenite, and the reverted has shown to have submicron grain structure, which leads to a higher strength. In this project work, effect of cold working
and the annealing temperature and time on the evolved properties have been studied.
