Abstract

The effect of anions on the corrosion of 1060 aluminium in 1% hydrochloric acid has been studied using weightloss and potentiostatic techniques. The concentration of the anions undertaken has varied from 10ppm to 300 ppm. It has been observed that citrate, tartarate, orthophosphate, dihydro-gen orthophosphate and phosphate ions show inhibitive behaviour at lower concentrations but they accelerate the rate of dissolution of aluminium in 1% HCI at higher concentrations.
