Abstract
Versatility of nickel base applications have discussed in this review to study nickel in the form of depositions, coatings, foils, films, sheets and powder forms. The
industrial requirements covered have been mostly electronics industries, encasement purposes in high temperature industries, solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) industries, corrosion protection industries etc. As a high temperature resistant element the most usages have discussed on consequences based on high temperature in any of the stated possibilities.
Namely such components have been sometimes polymeric conductive adhesives for high
temperature, electrical contacts at high temperature, electrical contacts in ceramic porous constructions for fuel supply, fuel cell construction exposed at high temperature for long time, sandwich wire oven thin sheet construction for cooling purposes encasements, rechargeable batteries, etc. Preparations of thin sections like films and depositions have done by physical or chemical vapor deposition or powder metallurgy route. Non vacuum
routes have appeared to be very popular like electroless plating, sol-gel techniques etc. Pulsed laser deposition and rapid solidification have been attractive routes for amorphous, quasicrystalline and crystalline film formation. Fibers in free standing and substrate supported have utilized in different purposes by variation in heat treatments. Composite compacts have used nickel as binder element to produce metal matrix composites.
