Abstract
The inhibition of mild steel corrosion in 1 ON H2SO4 medium was studied in the presence of different concen-trations of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and ammonium thiocy-
nate (ATC) complex (PVA-ATC) at selected temperatures
of 25, 35 and 45°C respectively. Interestingly, ammonium thiocynate acts as corrosion accelerator at higher temperatures. But, when complexed with PVA, 95% corrosion inhibition of mild steel is achieved by the adsorption of the excess S, N and 0 atoms attached with the polymer chains as confirmed by the weight loss, polarization and optical microscopy techniques.
