Abstract

Experiments carried out, using Multi Gravity Separator (MGS), following statistical designs with coal fine samples (two coking and two non-coking coal) from diff-erent coal washeries of eastern India under the present study. While studies with coking coal fine-having around 20% & 29% ash-lighter fraction assaying 13.95% & 17.11 % ash with more than 80% & 70% yield respectively could be achieved, MGS was found to produce lighter fraction assaying <34% ash with more than 80% yield from the non-coking coal fines having 38.41% ash and 40.3% ash respe-ctively. It is worth mentioning that the products (ligh-ter fractions) obtained with coking and non-coking coal fine samples from different washeries are suitable for
industrial applications. While former two can be used
for steel making, latter two (from non-coking coal
fines) can be useful for power generation. Better utilisation of coal fines not only improve the overall process efficiency but help reducing environmental pollution also.
