Abstract
The paper incorporates the information on the latest trends in the development of corrosion resistant galva-nized coatings. There are multifarious approaches in achieving the extended life of coatings having thin zinc layers. These include modification in chemistry of coat-ings,heat treatment . providing thin alloy layers, sur-face conversion coatings and top organic coatings. It is found that the modification in chemical composition of galvanized coatings has a strong influence on their
corrosion resistance . Addition of nobler metals in the coating improves their corrosion resistance. Future scope for the development of corrosion resistant hot dip galva-nized coatings is discussed.
