Abstract

Medication using Siddha drugs has been in practice for a long time. A variety of metallic additives has been added during formulation of the siddha drugs. This has raised concern over the contamination of heavy metals in the human body, as they are highly carcinogenic. Following this an initiative is taken to verify the level of contamination of toxic heavy metals in patients who are administered with siddha drugs. This project evaluates the level of contamination of toxic heavy metals in blood and serum samples of patients who are administered with siddha drugs. The results of the study reveal that the toxic heavy metal contamination is alarmingly high in many samples tested. The study recommends the need to bring stringent regulations on the use of toxic heavy metals in siddha drugs.
