Abstract

Various ferrous and non-ferrous metals have been tested in seawater under natural and laboratory test conditions. Brass and copper samples showed resistance when exposed at half tide level (intermittent immersion) and nickel and monel metal showed higher resistance when exposed at sea bed (continuous immersion). Different temperature and pH of the sea water corrosion such as effect of velocity, temperature and pH of the sea water have been studied and the results indicated that each factor has much influence on the corrosion rates of mild steel.
