Abstract
India is an important player in the foundry sector due to two main reasons viz. the stringent pollution control standards in the developed countries and the ceaseless growth of automobile and machine tool sectors within the country. There is also growing awareness regarding pollution. This is a threat to the existence of countless foundry sector units scattered in various parts of India. The National Metallurgical Laboratory, being a premier research and development organisation in the country, has been pursuing task of developing an eco-friendly coke-less cupola and gas cleaning plants of various modules/sizes ranging from 2T/hr to 20T/hr.
