Abstract
Fly ash in the range of 20 to 60% by weight has been used to develop ceramic floor and wall tiles for building applications. Fly ash admixed with plastic clay and feldspar in different proportions were sintered and vitrified at 1080° to 1200'C to get the glazed (in matty and glossy colours) and unglazed tiles. The properties of these tiles were evaluated in rela¬tion to fly ash content and f ring temperatures, and the results were com¬pared with European Nation (EN) Standards. Better strength and scratch hardness are some of the advantages in fly ash based tiles keeping all other properties at par with the conventional tiles.
