Abstract

Coating consisting of thoroughly mixed binder epoxy and amine based hardener materials was applied by brush on sand blasted mild steel panels and rebars. The coated specimens were then subjected to the following tests: (i) salt spray test to study of corrosion resistance of the coating (ii) impact test for the characterization of mechanical damage of paint film (iii) pull out test for the bond strength between concrete mould and re-bar, (iv) chemical resistant test to alkali, acid and calcium chloride,(v) cathodic disbondment test for bonding and adhesive properties of coating and (vi) scratch resistance test to identify penetration of paint film. On the basis of the above tests, amine based cured liquid epoxy is highly alkali resistance. The coating also shows good performance under accelerated weathering, salt spray conditions, pull-out test and scratch resistance test.
