Abstract

Three type of refactory aggregates were synthesized from low cost materials viz. fly ash, beach sand sillimanite and kyanite by reaction sintering with alumina and other dopants. The aggregates were characterized and castable briquettes were prepared using commercial high alumina cement as binder. Some of the hydraulic and other properties of the castable briquettes have been studied and results are discussed in the paper.
