Occurrence and Refractory properties of Rajasthan Magnesite

The occurrence of magnesite in Rajasthan is described .A mineralogical study of Rajasthan magnesite the revealed the presence of quartz in considerable amounts beside other siliceous impurities such as muscovite, chlorite and talc. Refractory and physical properties of bricks made from the fired material are described. The raw material as mined , is suitable for the manufacture of forsterite refractories; but for the manufacture of good quality magnesite refractories, the material must be beneficiated to lower its silica content so that silica is within the limits specified by the Indian Standards Specification.
